Whether you’re on a tight budget, or just looking for a way to spend less this spring break, there are plenty of frugal ideas your family can do. If a big vacation just isn’t in the cards this year, the following are 15 affordable spring break ideas for the whole family.
#1 Enjoy a Staycation
Can’t afford to leave your city? Why not enjoy a vacation right at home! Instead of cooking, eat out like you would if you were on vacation. Plan fun activities in your city and visit sights you’ve never seen before.
#2 Take a Day Trip to the Beach
You can still hit the beach on a budget! Instead of staying overnight, take a day trip to your nearby beach! Make sure to pack some food and drinks to help keep costs low.
#3 Have a Party
Can’t afford to take a trip right now? You’re probably not the only one. Invite neighbors over for a cookout and have a little party!
#4 Plan a Trip for the Summer
Start thinking about the summer and consider planning a trip together as a family! This can be a great way to stay motivated when you get bored.
#5 Go Geocaching
Need to get out of the house for cheap? Consider going geocaching as a family! Geocaching, a type of high-tech treasure hunt, is a fun and creative way to get outside and explore your city using your GPS or an app.
#6 Attend a Local Concert or Festival
Look at your town’s calendar, check out the website for your local YMCA, recreation center or chamber of commerce for activities and festivals going on during spring break. Some may even be free!
#7 Go Camping
You can still have a frugal getaway by going camping! Pick a nearby campsite and pack up the family for a week.
#8 Enjoy a Picnic
Do you have a nice park or place where you can eat outside? If not, why not have a picnic in your backyard!
#9 Have a Day Date with Your Kids
When was the last time you got a little bit of one on one time with each of your kids? Take one day for each day of spring break and spend time with your kids one on one.
#10 Have a Themed Dinner Night
Make dinners at home more exciting by turning them into theme nights. Dress up, put on music, and get in the spirit of the night!
#11 Take a Road Trip
Is there a nearby city that is a little more fun? Consider taking a road trip there over spring break.
#12 Go to a Water Park
No matter where you live, there is a water park nearby! Have a day of fun in the sun at a water park.
#13 Get Your Home Spring Ready
Clear out your home for a yard sale or just clean the house. Sell anything you aren’t using anymore and use this money to do something fun as a family.
#14 Have Family Nights
Use this time to connect as a family again and have a family night! You can do movie nights, play board games, or do something fun together.
#15 Visit a Local Attraction
Have you been to your city’s zoo, aquarium, or another local attraction? It’s probably been awhile so subscribe to their newsletters to receive information about special hours, discounts and children activities offered throughout spring break (and the summer).
You don’t have to spend a lot of money to have a great spring break with your family. Be creative. Have fun. Most importantly, spend time together as a family because those are the unforgettable memories of a lifetime.
