Back-To-School Tips From Parents
Organize your school supplies On Monday you send your kids to school with at least 100 pencils, pens, erasers, and who knows what else. By the time the first weekend hits, they are down to just one! Start by setting up a school supply station in your home and only send your kid to school with what they need, and save the rest for later.
Start preparing after school snacks Snack time is inevitable, but is still one of the most forgotten parts of back to school time. Look for simple and easy recipes, and make them in bulk. If possible freeze or store the leftovers and use them throughout the month for your kids!
Implement the one touch rule for school papers It’s easy to lose permission slips or forget to put homework in the backpack after you’re done looking it over. If you implement the one touch rule for all things school related, it will make your life that much easier. After dinner, have your kids bring you everything school related they need you to look at for the day, then give it back to them to put straight into their backpack.
Make sure backpacks are packed the night before If your school mornings are like mine, it’s not exactly moving at a turtle’s pace around here. Save yourself some trouble by packing all sports bags, backpacks, and purses the night before and put them by the door for the morning. This will help you make sure you aren’t forgetting anything.
Set a designated homework time Whether your kids tell you or not, they will have something to do for class every single day. If it’s not a homework assignment, it’s likely studying for a test. Set a designated time where the whole family will sit down and do their homework. I like to have all the kids sit at the table while I’m cleaning up, so I’m right there if they need help.
We hope by implementing these simple but effective systems into your home life, you’ll be ready to start the school year with a bang!
