Give Back to Students in Need while Shopping for Back-to-School Supplies with Target and $600 Gift Cards Giveaway

It’s hard to believe that the back to school season is already fast approaching. Many schools across the country commence the new school year in mid-August or after Labor Day in September. In Florida, many schools return back-to-school in August and some schools started their  summer vacation break in the month of May.  Various states have the back-to-school sales tax-free holiday weekend in the month of July.
As parents can relate, school supplies can get costly for families especially when having various school aged children. In our own family, we are preparing our teen for his junior year of high school and our identical twins for first grade in elementary school.
According to the National Retail Federation, families with school-age kids spend more than $600 on back-to-school purchases.  With different school supplies requirements, clothing, technology and even home decor for academics needed for the new school year, early preparation is key to help with organization and readiness.

Target has launched a back-to-school initiative, Buy One, Give One, in July.  Designed to give back with select up & up school supply, for every select school supply purchased at Target stores from July 13 through August 2, Target will donate one school supply item to a student in need – up to $25 million in supplies.  Not all students have the resources they need to be successful in the classroom and now very time Target guests buy school supply in stores, Target will give one to a student in need.  (More than 300 products will be eligible, including pencils, paper, crayons, paints, chalk, glue, scissors and staplers, and they’ll be clearly marked in Target stores.)  Through these purchases, Target’s goal is to donate up to $25 million in supplies via the Kids In Need Foundation—enough for potentially up to 2 million kids as they head back to school.

SCHOOL SUPPLIES

To start preparing for our back-to-school shopping for the teen and twins, we headed to our local SuperTarget and easily found our local school supplies lists that were conveniently located in the main “school shop” area within our Super Target.
First thing on both the high schooler and first graders list was a new backpack (without wheels).  The teen found one that could fit comfortably multiple textbooks, had an easy access cell phone pouch and a section to hold a tablet.  The twins were super excited to find backpacks from their favorite cartoon and movie series.
For the twins, finding a fun character based lunch box and water bottle was a must and I wanted to make sure they had a lunch box that was insulated for cold and hot foods.  Target had a wide selection of lunchboxes, in all shapes, colors and sizes from Disney’s Minnie Mouse to Star Wars movie characters. The list of school supplies can be very specific and detailed for each grade level.  For example among the list for us were locker accessories and USB pack for the teen and 24 pack of crayons and notebooks for the twins.  Some supplies have to be in a certain color or size or quantity or brand name.  We were pleased to find so many types of supplies that were needed – right down to the brand name and color. The options provide each student a chance to find their own unique school supply they need and have their personality shine through with their choice – notice the Superman USB pack the teen chose. 🙂
Even teachers need assistance with extra school supplies. The Department of Education has reported that on average, teachers spend $400-$500 out of their own pockets on classroom supplies each year so extra school supplies would be helpful for any teacher.

CLOTHING

No back-to-school shopping can be complete without new clothes for the upcoming school year.  Shopping at Target means you can find school supplies and clothing for students all-in-one store without having to go to another retail store, if desired.  Even with the teen going to a small private high school. he still needs non-uniform clothing.  With the twins, it means buying double of everything and usually at the same size.  They are at an age where they can wear out their clothes quickly and grow in sizes frequently.  It’s essential for many families to find quality clothing at affordable prices and Target has much to choose from.
