I love this picture of myself and my dear friend, Candace, because this picture defines an era in our lives and it symbolizes the love of friendship. In the early 2000’s, I met Candy during a spring semester while attending college and we just instantly clicked. We were both young professional women making our way and climbing the career ladder in the D.C. Metro area. We were independent, single, working full-time, going to school and balancing our aspirations with our daily lives. I was a single mother to my oldest son and Candy was a military veteran.
Candy quickly became my bestie and part of my everyday life. She easily was accepted and loved by immediate family, who at the time lived in the same area. Her fun personality would make for a happy girls night out and she showed the same enthusiasm when hanging out with my young son at his birthday parties. We hung out together, celebrated birthdays, accompanied each other to social events and took a trip to San Francisco together.
As is usually the case in life, friendship endure ups and downs and life continues to change. Candy and I both moved out of the D.C. area, we both got married, we both had children (Candy has a beautiful daughter and I have identical twins boys) and we are both working Moms. Since we don’t live in the same state anymore, I haven’t had the chance to see Candy in the last few years, but I’m delighted that through the power of social media and email, we are connected once more.
We have plans to see each other soon and I know if we both could see each other today, we would pick up right where we left off years ago because we’re simply true and forever friends.

I know exactly what you mean. My BFF leaves in California and I am at the opposite end. We’ve known each other since 5th grade and have never been “apart”. Friendships do last forever when the center is love.
