As my kindergarten twins and high school teen are in the midst of the back to school season, I am reminded of the thousands of military families who are preparing for a new school year without their military family member. Throughout my pregnancy of the twins, my husband was on overseas deployment and I volunteered for the Army National Guard’s FRG (Family Readiness Group).
Part of the FRG’s mission was to help keep the families of the deployed soldiers connected with information, assistance and resources. We had setup a phone and email list to keep family members engaged especially for those that could not make it to the monthly meetings. It was always a humbling and awe-inspiring experience to be able to witness first-hand the strength of the deployed military members and their families.
Due to their tactical objectives, deployed soldiers could be found in high-risk and dangerous overseas areas. Their focus has to be on the mission at hand. Though soliders always worry, they have to remain focused on their mission so they can try to return safely back home.
Stateside families forged ahead (often without the support of extended family) to take care of children, school, working, paying bills, managing the household and trying to keep the family on track while their solider was deployed. The consistent strength of a military family and the fortitude of solider is constantly tested…when the unexpected happens, when an emergency occurs, when the heartbreak of an injury to a solider occurs and now life-long medical struggles makes family living never the same again.
In its second year of partnership (last year raised more than $500,000 for Wounded Warrior Project (WWP), Brawny Paper Towels is encouraging people to help our nation’s heroes by supporting Wounded Warrior Project – an organization dedicated to honoring and empowering Wounded Warriors.
Wounded Warrior Project serves veterans and service members who incurred a physical or mental injury, illness, or wound, co-incident to their military service on and their families. WWP strive to raise awareness and to enlist the public’s aid for the needs of injured service members, to help injured servicemen and women aid and assist each other, and to provide unique, direct programs and services to meet their needs. Brawny is standing strong alongside Wounded Warrior Project. Overcoming the physical and emotional challenges of adjusting to ordinary life is a test of strength that every Wounded Warrior and his/her family face on a daily basis. The maker of Brawny admires this strength and is proud to support the WWP mission.
