Back to school season has arrived with many students returning back to school for the new school year after Labor Day. In the state of Florida, many students already started the new school year with classes beginning in mid to late August. As a wife, mother, and business owner, I use my computer and electronic devices to organize, coordinate, and assist to efficiently streamline my personal life and business work. The tools I often use to create a presentation for a client or flier promoting a play at my son’s school can all be found within Microsoft Office with programs such as PowerPoint or Microsoft Word.
With having my eldest son entering 9th grade as a freshman in high school (and also having preschool twin boys), Microsoft Office has become part of their schooling as well. In my late elementary and early junior high school years, I learned about keyboarding and typing in a designated learning lab. About 30 computers were lined up all across the back and sides walls and all had typing and keyboard strokes programs. Its on those early programs that I learned how to type – without looking down at my hands – and learned how to create a document. I have been able to see the immeasurable progress computer programming and technology have undergone from those days back in the ’80’s to its point where its integrated into everyday culture – including my own children.
My new 9th grader has been assigned homework where he needs to research information on the internet and complete discussion questions that need to be submitted and typed on Microsoft Word. He recently did a student tutorial on the basics of PowerPoint and learned what its like to create a visually appealing presentation. Even our preschool twins like to draw their own unique ‘pictures’ using animation tools found on Word or preschool aged fun and colorful learning programs.
With Microsoft Office…
- Presentations aren’t just for the boardroom; with PowerPoint, students can turn a poster board idea into a multi-media presentation with images, audio and video that will wow everyone.
- Authoring A+ papers and reports has never been easier with Microsoft Word.
- Want to make working with numbers easier? Excel comes with simple-to-use analysis tools such as Sparklines – embedded word-sized graphics – that bring visual meaning to complicated data.
- OneNote brings note taking to the digital age with easy to use tabs and search function. Keep audio, video, web clips and even scanned images in one place so that it’s never lost or forgotten.
- Office 2010 and Office for Mac 2011 deliver the highest level of compatibility for students to share and collaborate on Office documents whether on a PC or Mac.
- Students who use SkyDrive will never be without the documents, notes, photos, and videos that matter the most.
