The challenging economy has affected families nationwide in all levels of socio-economic status. Many are families are facing difficulties preparing for the new school year and back-to-school season. With the job loss rate on the rise and the housing market in continued instability, finances are on the minds of most.
State Farm and Univision have joined forces for Cuentas Claras–a series of town hall meetings aimed at educating and empowering Latinos across the country about their finances. These Spanish-language forums are free to the public and offered in select cities across the country. Attendees of the town hall meeting will learn about credit, building financial wealth, foreclosure prevention and will answer questions about money.
The first “Cuentas Claras” town hall meeting was held July 23 at Teatro Natives in Queens, New York. Running through November, the initiative will present forums in San Antonio, El Paso, Oakland, Phoenix, Boston, Dallas, Chicago, Houston, Los Angeles, and Miami. (To learn more information about the town hall meetings, click: HERE).
Social media is also playing a key role in the new initiative. Both Univision and State Farm are promoting the initiative online – Univision via its local digital media properties and State Farm through State Farm Latino on Facebook. Promotions are also airing on Univision Radio stations in the markets where “Cuentas Claras” meetings will be held.
In continuing social media efforts, State Farm is sponsoring a Cuentas Claras conversation on Twitter this Thursday from 9-10 PM EST. This is the perfect forum for savvy Latina (and non-Latina) women and moms to not only share their own tips, but to also receive invaluable advice on how to improve their family’s financial situation.
Join State Farm, Latina Mom Bloggers, and a group of fabulous panelists as we discuss how to establish and maintain good credit, the importance of saving money, applying for loans and more. Of course, there will be lots of fun prizes too, including a $100 gift card!
