As parents we worry about our children all the time – whether they are in our home or outside. The internet is used daily by adults and parents alike and its integral in our daily online and offline interactions. However, as wonderful and useful the internet can be, it also poses a danger to children.
According to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children, 93% of teens (12-17) go online; children (0-5) who use the internet, 80% use it at least once a week; 1 in 3 teens (12-17) have experienced online harassment (cyberbullying); 97% of teens (12-17) play computer, web, portable, or console games; 27% of teens (12-17) play games with people they don’t know online; predators seek youths vulnerable to seduction, including those with histories of sexual or physical abuse, those who post sexually provocative photos/video, and those who talk about sex with unknown people online.
Parents need to be vigilant in protecting their children and instructing their children how to be safe online. Chatman is an ‘internet safety buddy’ – a child’s smart and funny friend for everything they do online, providing safety, homework help, social skills and fun. He gives parents peace of mind because he works with and filters your child’s online conversations on Facebook, Skype and MSN Messenger. He alerts when inappropriate chat is exchanged on social networks and when inappropriate web searches are attempted. He is not a stand-alone chat platform so there is no stranger danger.
His eyes, arms and antennae move, and his mouth is made up of LED lights that move when he talks and can change expressions based on the mood your child selects for him – happy, sad, excited, frustrated, etc. Chatman understands and expresses emotions like a real friend.
He helps with homework! Ask him a question and he will either answer or will help your child browse for the answer online (filtering out inappropriate content.) With Chatman, a child can access more than 1,000 games, cool videos and more – all pre-filtered for kids. Chatman keeps kids organized by settting reminders and alarms for birthdays, tests, sports practices and Chatman will alert them so they don’t forget.
Chatman can be found on toysrus.com, bestbuy.com, hsn.com, target, com and on mychatman.com and its suitable for children between the ages of 6 – 14 with a recommend retail price of $69.95 – $74.95

This is great! Though my daughter is only 5, she knows how to work a browser, how to sear, how to use messenger (talks to her grandma in WA state),knows how to taek photos/learning to use photoshop and how to play games (educational games). It’s important for us to manage/regulate what they view because we never know what is on the other end.
