Growing up in New York, there always were opportunities to shop and eat from a variety of grocery stores and eateries representing almost every nation across the globe. From Ethiopian restaurants to Italian bakeries to Latin American bodegas on every street corner, its truly a smorgasbord of culinary delights for every taste. I have many fond memories of shopping with my parents and grandparents and watching them select produce and food that were native to their birthplace of Cuba and Puerto Rico. The smell of strong coffee, hot bread baking, salsa music playing the speaker system, neighbors talking over the produce section filled with mangos, avocadoes and platanos—it was more than shopping—it was part of a cultural experience.
Now living in Florida, I’m glad I’m able to continue the tradition with my own children and parents because Fresco y Más will open for the first time in the Orlando area to offer residents an authentic Hispanic shopping experience that truly reflects the desires of the local Hispanic community! The new Fresco y Más location will include a brand new Latin Butcher, in-store café, an expanded selection of tropical fruits and a wide array of Hispanic baked goods.
Fresco y Más
The new store will feature the following:
- Bi-lingual signage throughout the store (which is helpful to any customer entering the store).
- Refreshed produce department featuring a farmer’s market setting with a wider selection of tropical fruits.
- An all-new Wall of Value section featuring weekly specials on popular items customers purchase most like rice, beans, oils and more that will be rotated weekly to provide customers a consistent array of value.
- New Dollar Zone within the store, where customers can get over 600 everyday essentials for just $1, from grocery and cleaning to health and beauty.
- An all-new café with expanded seating area serving authentic Hispanic breakfast, pastries, drinks and hot and cold sandwiches.
- A new “Cocina” (kitchen) offering daily specials of freshly prepared family favorites made from scratch.
- An all-new, full-service Latin butcher shop (Carniceria) offering an expanded selection of fresh, custom cut meats to better serve our customers.
- Renovated bakery department offering an expanded selection of Hispanic pastries and local baked goods, including flan, tres leches, croquettes, and custom tres leches cakes, made fresh daily, as well as a wider selection of local favorites.
One of the aspects that makes Fresco y Más so great is the attention to detail. The first Fresco y Más store opened its doors on June 15, 2016 in Hialeah, FL. Over the past two years, Southeastern Grocers has converted several Winn-Dixie’s to Fresco y Más with considerable success. It’s simple—they’ve invested time into listening to their customers, and this change is a direct result of that feedback. Its a store that is customized to the Hispanic American shopping experience and its reflected throughout the store.
Kitchen/Cocina
- A new “Cocina” (kitchen) with chefs offering a range of freshly prepared, delicious dishes from scratch and daily specials, including arroz congris (rice dish), Pan con Bistec (steak), garbanzo (beans) and mojo pork.
Full-Service Latin Butcher Shop (Carniceria)
- An all-new, full-service Latin butcher shop (Carniceria) offering an expanded selection of fresh, custom cut meats to better serve our customers, including t-bone steak, roast beef, whole or half top round, and pork loin.
Dollar Zone
- New Dollar Zone within the store, where customers can get over 600 everyday essentials for just $1, from grocery and cleaning to health and beauty. Some popular Dollar Zone items include: Suki Coconut Milk, Disposable Foam Plates, and Orange Mop Cloth.
Bakery (Panaderia)
- Renovated bakery department offering an expanded selection of Hispanic pastries and local baked goods, including flan, tres leches, croquettes, and custom tres leches cakes, made fresh daily, as well as a wider selection of local favorites.
Café/Cafeteria
- An all-new café with expanded seating area serving authentic Hispanic breakfast, pastries, drinks and hot and cold sandwiches. Customer favorites include: Ham Croquette, Café con Leche (Coffee and Milk) and Pork Tamales.
Produce (Frutas y Verduras)
- Refreshed produce department featuring a farmer’s market with a wider selection of tropical fruits and customer favorites like malanga root, green plantains and salad tomatoes. Southeastern Grocers works with more than 200 Florida and regional growers to source fresh produce.

Southeastern Grocers is unveiling the newest Fresco y Más store and the first of its kind in Orlando, growing the Fresco y Más banner and expanding the banner beyond South Florida and making Fresco y Más the largest in its history – 25 stores!
