You have probably heard the old adage, Count Your Blessings. Most of you know that by counting your blessings it is a reminder to be grateful for the good things in your life but for my family and I it’s not just a saying tossed around here and there but it is grounded in how and what we believe. In January of this year, I decided that we were going to literally Count our Blessings! So as part of our newest Feliciano tradition, we now have a “Give Thanks” jar where we place little notes on all our blessings we will encounter for the entire year. On December 31st, we will read through the notes and by doing so, literally Count Our Blessings.
Here is how I created my jar but the possibilities are endless. You can make it as pretty or as simple as you like, the point is what you place IN the jar that matters.
Step 1: Choose the Right Jar
I had a jar that I recycled from Christmas candy. Mason Jars are just as good or anything with a lid that you have. No need to go out and buy one.
STEP 2: Cover the Jar
In our house pink and glitter is a MUST! So I chose a simple pink fabric, wrapped the fabric around the jar and using a hot glue gun securely fasten to the jar.
STEP 3: Glitz and Glam
Zone in on your crafty side, get out the sparkles and the ribbons and the glitter! Decorate to your heart’s desire—make it your own!
STEP 4: Name It on the Lid
This is a good reminder of why you are even making this jar! It will help the family remember its purpose.
The FINAL PRODUCT
Place it in a spot that will help everyone remember to jot down those blessings or good things happening. Don’t forget to read them to each other at the end of the year as you Count Your Blessings by Giving Thanks for all the good that you were blessed with.
