Heart disease remains the No.1 killer of Hispanic women. On average, Hispanic women are likely to develop heart disease 10 years earlier than non-Hispanic white women. However, despite the heightened risk, most are still unaware of the threat to themselves and their families.
I (@JoscelynRC) am honored to have the opportunity with @MsLatina, (one of the 2010 Go Red For Women & Go Red Por Tu Corazon Spokesperson), @Carogonza, and @Mcontemporanea to join Go Red Por Tu Corazón, to encourage Hispanic women to live a healthy life and embrace their inner beauty by making heart-healthy decisions through healthy eating and increased physical activity to prevent these risks.
HISPANIC WOMEN ARE AT A GREATER RISK FOR HEART DISEASE
• Only 1 in 3 Hispanic women are aware that heart disease is their No. 1 killer.
• Cardiovascular disease kills more than 435,000 women each year, which is about one every minute.
• Just 3 in 10 Hispanic women say they have been informed by their doctor that they are at a higher risk.
• Only 1 in 4 Hispanic women is aware of proven treatment options.
• Heart disease can be prevented. In fact, 80 percent of cardiac events in women are linked to poor choices, involving diet, physical activity and smoking. Women must make the right choices to change this statistic.
WHAT CAN YOU DO?
• National Wear Red Day is Friday, February 4th. Show others around the nation that you support the fight against heart disease by wearing red.
• “Going Red” is as easy as putting on a red dress, a red tie or a red dress pin. By simply WEARING RED to show your support, you will help raise awareness of heart disease in Hispanic women.

Enjoyed yesterdays twitter party. Learned so much about heart disease and prevention. I plan to have my whole family wear red and hope to spread the word to my friends and family.
