Dearest Babywearing-Flashmobbing- Mommies,
The night before our big day I felt surprisingly nervous. Not about our flashmob dance or the inevitable crowd. Don’t get me wrong, I get stage fright, but there’s something about having a baby clipped to your chest that keeps your mind busy and your body happy. No, I was nervous because I knew this was my chance at an epic life experience and if I screwed up the dance I couldn’t exactly ask you ladies (or all of the watching bystanders) to let me start over! I wanted this moment to be perfect. My hopes and expectations were through the roof!
When we arrived and found only a handful of you I was so discouraged.
I had build this morning up in my head for so many months and with close to 40 RSVPs and 300+ invitations out, I kept thinking that more women were sure to show. They didn’t. But there you ladies were, wearing your babies and your smiles and asking to run through the dance a few times beforehand. So we practiced and we worked out the kinks on the rooftop of that parking garage and you never stopped smiling. It was contagious. It was monumental.
So to you brave Mommies who stepped out of your comfort zone and dared to dance alongside me in public, thank you! Thank you for being so fearless. Although our Flashmob didn’t happen I hope you went home feeling like total warriors! I hope when your children are older you show them these photos, and tell them how you tied and clipped and scooted them around in their carriers all of those days that you practiced. I hope you tell them how silly you felt at first dancing to a YouTube video in your living room, but that you pushed through and found your comfort.
Our children will learn courage from us and these moments are as much for them as they are for us. You are babywearing goddesses and I am so proud of you my fellow mommies!
Love,
Shawna
