This is part of a sponsored campaign with Latina Mom Bloggers and Transitions Optical. However, all opinions expressed are my own.
I can still remember my parents telling me as a young girl not to sit too close to the TV because it would damage my eyes or to eat more carrots so I could have better vision. I really do think their parental reminders did help so that despite genetics, I did not end up wearing glasses in my childhood, but in my mid to late teens.
Diabetes is an illness that hits close to home for me and my family because my mother suffers from it. During the past decade, she has struggled with Type 2 diabetes and over the last two years has battled a war with kidney failure and dialysis. Unfortunately, blindness can be a symptom or illness of diabetes.
Diabetes is the number one cause of all recent agents of blindness in the United States among patients 24 to 74 years of age, according to the American Diabetes Association. Although this metabolic disorder is mainly diagnosed by a primary healthcare provider like an internist, pediatrician or endocrinologist, an eyecare professional can also detect the ocular signs of the disease. Diabetic patients may develop certain vision conditions because the eye is one of the principal organs affected by diabetes.
Due to my mother’s illness, my family regularly get our vision checked. I am at a greater risk to inherit diabetes, kidney failure, vision loss, and other ailments and many of them are which are worsened because of already having diabetes as a pre-existing condition. I know first-hand the importance of proper eye health.
Since the mid-2000s, I started to incorporate Transitions Lenses into my eyeglasses choices. Transitions Lenses are the #1 recommended adaptive lenses worldwide.
Transitions® lenses – the #1 recommended adaptive lenses worldwide – are the ideal everyday choice for healthy sight. They are clear indoors and at night, and outdoors, continuously adapt with every variation of light so you can consistently see your best.
The 2013 Official Sponsor of Sightseeing (OSS) program is a consumer education effort created by Transitions Optical to demonstrate that vision is the gateway to the world around us, allowing us to “see the sights” in our everyday life and enjoy every moment to the fullest.
Transitions® adaptive lenses enhance vision to help deliver vibrant must-see experiences and bring consumers closer to the sights, sounds and tastes of the things they enjoy most – food, music, sports and travel.
Via the HealthySightforLife.com platform- Transitions Optical engages users to experience what it’s like to lose healthy sight due to an eye disease, vision disorder or environmental disturbance. There are various environments that can lead to eye sight loss including indoor and outdoor hazards, work life, home issues and statistics regarding eye health. By visiting http://www.healthysightforlife.com/results.aspx?l=en a more accurate assessment of their current vision and risk factors can be determined by answering questions about eethnicity, gender and other questions.
Additionally, Transitions and the American Diabetes Association recently presented an in-market event in San Antonio, Texas to provide Latino and multicultural families with vital eye health information. The event was attended by more than 5,590 visitors and there were 329 FREE vision screenings and all participants were encouraged to visit an Eye Care professional for follow-up care.
