For the past week us ladies have been fighting a cold (somehow Daddy stayed in the clear!) and I’ll be honest, as a newbie mom, having a sick baby is super scary! There is just so much information out there and so little time to read everything! I want her to get well but I also want to use as much “natural medicine” as possible to get her that way! It’s almost overwhelming.
Did you know that you aren’t supposed to mix essential oils with homeopathic medicine? Neither did I, and most people don’t. From what I understand, the reason is that homeopathics work in small frequent doses, but essential oils are so potent that they often cancel out the homeopathics.
So here I am, researching, reminding myself to follow my mommy instincts, and remembering that while friends and family may have the best intentions, nobody knows Payton like I do. I have experienced it, and see it all the time in my “circle-o-mommies” that when someone mentions their little one having an ailment, people instantly throw in their two cents regarding treatment. When this happens, don’t take it as a personal jab at your ability to make the best choices for your children, but rather a show of their honest to goodness empathy for your SICKY-situation.
Luckily PJ has only been sick a few times, and when that happens we all but overdose on water, fresh air, sunlight, skin on skin contact, and breastmilk (PJ, not me). Although if you’re a milk making mama and want to express some “liquid gold” for yourself, I say go for it! I’m also a lover of Hylands tiny cold homeopathic medicines.
With this tricky cold hitting us, it was perfect timing that I came across Pūrjus’ all organic juice line! With 100% pure non-GMO fruit juice, no added sugar or artificial ingredients, it excites me to have found a product that I can feel good about drinking and giving to my family! Their juices provide a convenient option for getting a nice boost of energy, something that is much needed when you’re busy caring for a sick baby AND yourself! Also, with three flavors to choose from, I feel like there’s something for all of us!
In January, David started having random nose bleeds which led us to discover his high blood pressure. Since beets have the amazing power to lower blood pressure, I was excited to introduce the pūrjus beet juice to him. He’s much more of a traditional apple juice kind of guy, but I am able to get him to drink a little when I add it to his regular morning smoothies. Naturally, this got me wanting to start experimenting with my own fruit and veggie smoothies using the pūrjus beet juice! It’s naturally sweet so you can surely drink it by itself, however, I am absolutely hooked on my beet and berry smoothies now!
The following are some more information about the new-to-market pūrjus:
-
Set at an affordable price of $4.99 for a 16.9 fl oz. can
-

-

With Payton turning 1 recently, we don’t have any time for sickness or low energy around here! I’m also thinking about using the pūrjus beet juice to naturally color a cake! I’ll be sure to share details soon!
So to all of my mommies and Daddies that are busy caring for your families, sick or not, remember you aren’t any good to them if you don’t take care of yourself as well! Whether it’s fruit juice, tea, healthy snacks, yoga, or a nice (albeit quick) hot shower please take care of yourself, for them.
I’ll leave you with my favorite mommy inspiration quote that I recently came across. It reminds me that we are all doing the best we can and we shouldn’t kick ourselves for our choices and actions of the past.
“Do the best you can until you know better. Then when you know better, do better” ~ Maya Angelou

Hi! So I have a silly question but how did purjus taste? I don’t like some of the natural fruit juices (like V8) because it taste kind of chalky to me. If its all natural with real fruit or vegetables flavoring, then I’m all good. 🙂 Did you like the taste?
Shawna Martell says
That’s not a silly question at all! It tastes like fresh fruit juice, not chalky at all. If you made homemade beet juice and by some miracle were able to strain it completely free from all chunks…that’s what it tastes like. Personally beets aren’t my first choice of fruit which is why I prefer it mixed in my smoothies.. I imagine if you love beets you’d love drinking it straight from the bottle as is!

How was the beet juice in the smoothies? I’m always looking for new smoothie recipes so if you ever want to share in a post, I would certainly appreciate it! LOL

That’s a great idea! My husband and I both like it in our fruit smoothies because it has a very smooth taste. Personally I think it pairs really well with berries!

Were you able to keep the drink outside of the fridge or once its opened it needs to go the fridge? Sounds very healthy and tasty. I will be checking for it at my local grocery. Thanks for sharing.
Shawna Martell says
Hi Angelina! The label said to refrigerate after opening so that’s where I put it. Thanks for reading!

I would love to know if you used it to naturally color a cake! That sounds really interesting & something I would try…if you did it first of course. I’m still learning my way around a kitchen so I like to know other people can do things before I try and blowup the stove. lol

Hi Cassie! I did experiment with the beet juice in PJ’s smash cake frosting! It was a gorgeous shade of red (perfect for her Snow White party!) and I was very tempted to use it. I didn’t though because I noticed it stained my fingers and I was worried it would turn her mouth, hands, and everywhere else red for the rest of the party. Instead I used a few dashes of Tumeric powder which didn’t alter the flavor or texture but colored the frosting a lovely yellow!

I had absolutely no idea that you could not mix essential oils with homeopathic medicine. Ladies in my church are becoming essential oils reps and a lot of them also use homeopathic medicine together. I will be sure to let them know. Thanks!

Hi Eva! I was the same way and working too hard trying to get PJ over her colds with natural concoctions. Once I found out that I was essentially working against myself I was able to get her healthy again much quicker! Game changing information for sure! Thanks for reaching out!
