As a relatively new homeowner with a family full of only men, I am always looking for ways to better manage my time and save money. Unlike when you are renting a property (where the upkeep of a property usually falls on the landlord or property management), when you own your own home – you are responsible for everything. Your decision-making and thought process completely changes when you are responsible for maintaining a home in the quality that you want to live in. With 5-year-old twin boys and a teen son who are constantly moving about the house, the phrases of “Turn Off the Lights When You Leave a Room!” or “Who Left the Lights On?” is often repeated. It’s a continually waste of energy and time to be running around turning off lights behind everyone when they leave a room. In our family, we believe that it’s not just the parents who have to be cost conscious but the children can certainly be aware of it too.
In an effort to save, we are glad to have teamed up with Lutron Electronics and their “Who Left the Lights On?” campaign. In a recent survey, 90% of Americans said that someone in their household forgets to turn the lights off when they leave a room. Lutron has developed products that help to eliminate the “who left the lights on?” question and as an added layer of convenience. The Maestro Occupancy Sensor C.L. Dimmer and Maestro Occupancy Sensing Switch automatically turn lights off and on.
We installed on one of Lutron Maestro Occupancy/Vacancy Sensing Switch in our high-traffic hallway to the garage. (The video can be seen below).
We have the products installed in our 1st floor of our home about 4 weeks and have already seen a COST REDUCTION in our monthly electric bill. (We do live in Florida and the summer months are naturally very hot so the A/C runs quite a bit more during the summer.) Comparing our August to September monthly electric bill, we saved $24.15!
With just the 1st floor installed with Maestro Occupancy Sensor C.L. Dimmers and Maestro Occupancy Sensing Switches, a noticeable change was made in our electric bill. At least $300.00 in savings would accumulate for the year and much more than that when we install the products on the 2nd floor as well.
