With a military husband and coming from a family that has veterans, we are grateful, respectful and in admiration of our military history – past and present.
In gratitude to those who’ve served our country, many establishments from national restaurants and themeparks, are offering Veterans Day freebies nationwide. The following (in part thanks to Coupon Sherpa) is a listing of free items for Monday, November 12 (Veterans Day observed for 2012):
California Pizza Kitchen Free pizza and drink – Nov. 11 and Nov. 12. Applies to: All veterans and active military California Pizza Kitchen is offering a free dine-in pizza and non-alcoholic drink for Veterans Day. Stop by your local California Pizza Kitchen in uniform or with another proof of service.
Cheeseburger in Paradise Free meal – Nov. 12. Applies to: All military personnel, active or retired Get a free meal on select menu items (dine-in only). Beverages and gratuity are not included.
Colonial Williamsburg Free admission – Nov. 9 to Nov. 12. Applies to: Active-duty, retirees, veterans, Reserves and their immediate dependents Tickets are only available on-site.
Denny’s Free breakfast – Nov. 12. Applies to: Active duty and veterans breakfast with Denny’s all-you-can-eat pancakes between 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Nov. 12.
Friendly’s Free coffee and breakfast – Nov. 12. Applies to: All veterans Get a free coffee and entree during breakfast hours with proof of service.
Golden Corral Free meal – Nov. 12. Applies to: All past and present members of the military As part of it’s annual Military Appreciation Monday Dinner, veterans will receive a free meal from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Nov. 12. In 2011, Golden Corral provided over 3.2 million free meals on Veterans Day and contributed over $6.1 million to Disabled American Veterans.
Historic Jamestown Free admission – Nov. 10 to 12. Applies to: Everyone
Hy-Vee Free breakfast – Nov. 12. Applies to: Veterans Get your free breakfast from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m. at all Hy-Vee supermarkets with in-store dining.
Knott’s Berry Farm Free admission – Nov.1 to 21. Applies to: Active military and veterans, plus one guest.
Lone Star Steakhouse Free entree – Nov. 12. Applies to: All veterans and active military personnel Enjoy a free entree from Lone Star’s Stars and Stripes Menu. Call ahead to ensure your local restaurant is participating.
National Parks Free admission – Nov. 10 to Nov. 12. Applies to: Everyone Over 100 national parks will participate and many have special events planned to mark the occasion.
On the Border Free entree coupon – beginning Nov. 12. Applies to: All active and veteran members of the military On the Border is offering a free entree coupon (up to $10) for use between Nov. 12 to Nov. 30. Additionally, everyone who brings a “Sizzling Salute to Veterans” flyer on Nov. 11 will have 15 percent of their total purchase donated to Carry the Load.
Outback Steakhouse Free appetizer and drink – Nov. 11 and Nov. 12. Applies to: All military and veterans Outback Steakhouse honors America’s heroes with a free “Bloomin’ Onion” appetizer and Coca Cola, plus a coupon for 10-percent off a future meal between Nov. 13 and Dec. 31.
Red Robin Free meal – Nov. 12 Applies to: All military personnel with proof of service. Red Robin is providing a free Red’s Tavern Double and Bottomless Steak Fries on Nov. 12. The chain restaurant also is also donating $10,000 to the Wounded Warrior Project. Find a location near you.
Sizzler Restaurants Free lunch – Nov. 12 Applies to: Guests with proof of military service. Sizzler Restaurants are serving free lunches until 4 p.m. on Nov. 12. You’ll have a choice of three entrees.
Spaghetti Warehouse Free entree with purchase – Nov. 12 Applies to: Everyone This one’s free-ish since it requires the purchase of a second entree in order to get the first one free. Bring in the coupon available at their website.
Texas Roadhouse Free lunch – Nov. 12 Applies to: All active and retired military Select a free lunch from a menu of 10 meals, plus a drink and sides. All locations of the popular steakhouse are providing this deal
T.G.I. Friday’s Free lunch – NOv. 12 Applies to: Guests with valid military I.D. T.G.I. Friday’s will provide veterans with a free lunch between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. on Nov. 12 at participating locations. Check with your local restaurant for details.

My husband ( in the Air Force) and I live in a military area. I was surprised at how few restaurants around us were doing a Veteran’s day meal. Hopefully, next year more places will jump on the bandwagon!
