When you become a parent and you think about when it becomes time to feed your little one, you often have very romanticized notion of making homemade baby food.
You think about riding your bicycle to the farmer’s market on a warm sunny day carrying a large wicker basket on your arm. You park your bike near a beautiful shady oak tree and you stop and greet each farmer’s market vendor (who know you by first name). You take a deep breath and smell the wonderful aromas of the vast and colorful produce. You touch and select only the most firm and juiciest produce available. Then you ride back home with a basket full of earth’s bounty. You begin to hum a happy melody and start to chop, dice, boil, steam and can all of the natural ingredients that you are making for your precious little one.
The Reality…
Its 6PM on a weekday. You have to pick up your son from soccer practice in 45 minutes and your daughter from ballet class which is located across town. Homework isn’t done. Your husband is running late from work. You are trying to boil some water on the stove for spaghetti night (again this week). You have a semi-laughing and semi-crying baby trying to crawl inside the pantry, all while still waiting the cable repairman, who was supposed to be at your home between 12 – 4 PM.
Real life…its busy to say the least.
However, just because its busy, it doesn’t mean you want to sacrifice wholesome and healthy foods for your family, especially for a growing and developing baby.
For those busy parents who are looking for fresh, organic, baby food but don’t always have the time of making it themselves, Yummy Spoonfuls offers parents a real (and affordable) answer.
What is Yummy Spoonfuls?
Yummy Spoonfuls is premium, organic, flash-frozen baby and toddler food. Made with only fresh certified organic, whole ingredients. The food is cooked in small batches and then immediately frozen to lock in nutrients, vitamins and freshness – just like when we make homemade baby food. Non-GMO, no sugar added, no juice concentrate, no processed purees and no additives.
Yummy Spoonfuls was first born in 2006 in the Atlanta kitchen of Agatha Achindu. Eager to feed her children the best possible baby food, she began cooking up batches herself. Soon she was packaging and selling the food and earning a loyal following.
In 2014, Agatha teamed up with fashion and lifestyle expert Camila Alves, who has three children with husband, Oscar winning actor, Matthew McConaughey. Like Agatha, Camila was committed to feeding her children top-quality baby food, and she hoped to find a store-bought version that could be as wholesome as homemade. Yummy Spoonfuls fit the bill. Together the duo has expanded the brand and partnered with Target to make it available to families across the country.
What makes Yummy Spoonfuls different than other baby food?
The Ingredients: Yummy Spoonfuls uses fresh fruits, vegetables, legumes, grains and meats that are organic, non-GMO, and contain no preservatives, additives or fillers. It’s just real food.
Freezing Process: Immediately after cooking in small batches, the food is flash-frozen to lock in nutrients and flavors without the need for preservatives or over-processing. Freezing is one of the most natural ways to preserve food and the Yummy Spoonfuls flash-frozen process is just like what we do at home!
Nothing added to make it shelf-stable so you won’t find Yummy Spoonfuls in the baby aisle because its located in the freezer section!
To make it easy for babies to transition from baby purees to soft solids, Yummy Spoonfuls’ 31 flavors are broken down into three stages.
Stage 1 and stage 2 pouches will last up to 9 months in the freezer. Stage 3 meals will last up to 12 months in the freezer. Please check the ‘best before’ date on the packaging for the expiration date. All products must be used within 24 hours of heating or defrosting. Any leftover food should be refrigerated and not refrozen.
Stage 1 (for babies four to nine months old) creates smooth purees from single ingredients that are gentle on babies’ tummies.
Stage 1 Yummy Spoonfuls fruit pouches are best served chilled and the veggies are best served warm. Simply defrost overnight in the refrigerator or gently warm in a bowl of hot water. To quickly defrost and heat, remove cap and microwave at 50% power in 10 second intervals. Secure the cap, shake and massage the pouch to ensure even heat distribution. Product will be hot; allow to cool for 1 minute and always check temperature before serving.
Stage 2 (for babies aged nine months plus) features options for developing palates and includes flavors like Butternut Squash & Peas and Sweet Potato, Carrot & Broccoli.
Stage 2 Yummy Spoonfuls fruit pouches are best served chilled and the veggies, legumes, and whole grains are best served warm.
Stage 3 (for toddlers just starting to feed themselves) they’ll be able to easily grab the tasty solids, like the Chicken Broccoli Bites and Pinto Beans, Brown Rice and Turkey.
Stage 3 You can prepare our meals in either a microwave oven or a conventional oven. Either way, just heat and serve!
Microwave Oven: Simply remove the film from the tray and place on a microwave safe plate. Heat on high for 45 seconds and stir thoroughly. Heat for an additional 15- 20 seconds and stir again. Conventional Oven: Preheat oven to 350 degrees fahrenheit. Simply remove the film from tray and place on the center of a baking sheet. Heat for 25-30 minutes then remove and stir thoroughly. Please note: Ovens vary so use these instructions as a guide to gently warm food but not over cook. Always stir food to eliminate hot spots. Caution: Product will be hot, allow to cool for one minute and always check temperature before serving as contents may be hot. Use with adult supervision.
Our baby Joshua really enjoyed eating the various flavors, especially Apple, Banana & Blueberry, Mango & Avocado, Chicken & Broccoli Bites and Sweet Potato, Green Beans & Chicken.
We tasted the foods as well and it tasted great! The food tasted fresh and didn’t have that stale or waxy taste that comes from food sitting on a shelf too long.
